You’re right on time

Choosing someone to walk with you in your healing journey is important. Reaching out for support can feel intimidating, too. I’ll do my best to answer some commonly asked questions people have when considering working with me.

What can I expect in working with you?

My invitation to you is to come just as you are. You can expect to be met with respect, compassion, humor and understanding in a casual environment. We’ll do the work at your own pace, but together. I currently offer virtual sessions through HIPAA compliant software and in person in Asheville, NC. While the energy and structure may be casual, I am still a professional in my work with you. I have degrees, licenses and trainings that are up to date and I uphold confidentiality in our work together.

What degrees, training and certifications do you have?

While I don’t think it’s ALL about degrees and acronyms (the right fit is the most important part!), I do believe the best clinicians are the most curious— always learning whether on their own or through professional trainings, dedicated to and engaged in social justice and making the world a more equitable place, and are also committed to their own growth and healing. I have a Bachelors in Psychology from Brevard College, and a double Masters in Social Work and Public Health from the University of Georgia. I am Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of North Carolina and New York.

Additional Trainings Completed:

  • 200 hour yoga teaching certification from Longwave Yoga

  • Trauma-informed yoga trainings with Veterans Yoga Project and with David Emerson

  • Yin Yoga Training at Asheville Yoga Center

  • Phase One and Two Brainspotting with Cynthia Schwartzberg, LCSW

  • iRest Yoga Nidra Immersion with Dr. Richard Miller

  • Processing White Privilege and Addressing Racial Inequality with Dr. Harris-Britt and Hayden Dawes, LCSW, LCAS

  • Meditation and Psychotherapy Course with Dr. Tara Brach

  • Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (3 years of study, outside consultation hours and personal sessions to receive full certification)

  • Inner Relationship Focusing Part 1 + 2 (somatic parts work) with Dr. Maureen Gallagher

Do you accept insurance?

I am currently in network with BCBS for residents of North Carolina. Otherwise, my services are out of pocket. Some of the benefits of paying out of pocket are: Insurance companies require a mental health diagnosis, which becomes part of your medical record and allows them to dictate almost everything about treatment: location of session, length, how often you can be seen, etc. It also limits who you can see based off of their network. Self-pay allows you more privacy, freedom, and the ability to choose the BEST fit for you. However, some insurance companies take out of network mental health benefits if you would like to utilize this option and do not have BCBS. If so, I can easily provide you with a superbill after our sessions for reimbursement. By being out of network, I work directly for you, the client, and not the insurance company. This gives us much more flexibility in terms of our work together, and also guarantees a higher level of confidentiality. I have a limited number of reduced fee spots based off need and availability. Please call or email to learn more about my fees.

What’s the difference between therapy and coaching?

I get asked this question often. Coaching is slightly different than therapy in that no mental health diagnosis or clinical records will be kept. High risk needs (suicidal ideation, self-harm ideation or behaviors, psychosis, substance abuse, active eating disorder behaviors, etc.) and concerns are not appropriate for coaching. If a referral needs to be made for a higher level of care, appropriate recommendations will be made. Sessions are typically 50 minutes, whereas therapy sessions are one hour. Our work together is typically more short term and present focused with coaching. Even if you live outside of North Carolina, coaching is offered virtually via secure video sessions.

I live outside of NC or NY, can we work together virtually?

It depends! I can provide online therapy (this is offered via secure video) to anyone in the state of North Carolina or New York. However, I am not licensed to provide therapy outside of these states. If you’re looking for coaching (we will first consult to make sure coaching is appropriate), I can provide virtual coaching no matter where you live! I have coaching clients from all over the country.

What is your cancellation policy?

Before working together, you will receive intake forms that will cover my policies and informed consent. In order to maintain consistency and respect for each other's time, I require at least 24 hours notice if you have to cancel your scheduled appointment. While I know life happens and I try to be flexible, I also value and respect both my time and yours, so if not cancelled within 24 hours, you may be responsible for up to the full fee.
